Original Sin
Original sin might be the most effective piece of psychological programming ever created.
Think about what it actually installs: you are born flawed. Before you've spoken a word, made a choice, or done a single thing, you already carry moral debt. And the only way to resolve it is through submission to an authority outside yourself.
Whether you're religious or not, some version of this is probably still running in the background of your psyche — the feeling that you need to earn the right to exist, that wanting things for yourself is suspect, that guilt is the natural state and joy requires justification.
The story of the Tree of Knowledge is supposed to be about a fall from grace. But what actually happened? Humans became self-aware. They gained the capacity to reason, to choose, to know, and to produce for themselves. And that was framed as the original crime.
What does it tell you about a system that makes consciousness itself the sin?
